We require a valid driver's license from all drivers, regardless of what state you rent in.
Iowa does not require a boating license to rent a boat.
Yes – each boat is equipped with all items required by law to be legal on the river, including life jackets for the capacity of the boat. There is
an anchor and line on each boat as well.
Children under age 13 must wear a vest at all times while on the water, whether the boat is docked, anchored, or in motion. We have a
small stock of children’s vests, but we recommend bringing jackets/vests for your children if they have them. This will ensure a proper fit.
Yes – the listed boat capacity is for all people, regardless of age.
No, pets are not allowed on our rentals. Please let us know at the time of reservation if you will need to bring a service animal onboard the
rental.
Our boats do not have either bathrooms or porta-potties, but there are many places to stop along the river.
Unfortunately we do not allow grills on our rentals due to the potential for fire damage.
Yes – alcohol is allowed on the boat and may be consumed while underway but you must follow state & national alcohol consumption
guidelines. You can get ticketed and/or arrested on the water for OWI (operating while intoxicated) with a BAC of .08 or higher.
Each boat rental includes a full tank of fuel, and the boat will be full at the time of rental. You do not need to refill the fuel prior to dropoff,
but if you run out of fuel you are responsible for any additional fuel costs incurred while you are out.
Sometimes – the layouts for our boats do make them wheelchair accessible, but it depends on the width and weight of your individual
chair, and will affect the total boat capacity due to the chair weight. We also have the ability to move the pickup location in our marina to
an easier access point. Please let us know at the time of reservation if you are looking for an accessible boat and we will work with you to
determine the best boat.
Unfortunately, we do not offer captain services for our rentals.
American Marine has a 96 hour (4-day) cancellation policy. If you cancel prior to your 96 hour notice, your rental payment will be refunded
in full. If you cancel after the 96 hour notice, you will forfeit a portion of the rental fee (deposit), which may be applied towards a future
rental within the same rental season. Should you need to change your reservation, we can do so at any point prior to your reservation
date, subject to availability.
If on the date of your rental there are heavy rains, thunderstorms or high winds, we reserve the right to cancel your reservation and will
issue a full refund. However, in the case of cooler/warmer weather, overcast skies, or light rain, the renter is still responsible, as all boats
will be released to go out on the water.
